More blood is diverted towards the muscles as they need more oxygen for respiration. She needs to burn glucose with oxygen and water to produce energy so she can run. The way she can get this oxygen into her body is through her lungs. Where oxygen from the air diffuses into the blood and carbon dioxide diffuses out.
