A larger population density always indicates a larger population size

Biology

Answer:

False

Explanation:

The population density and the population size can be correlated, but often can be very misleading. If a population size is large it doesn't mean that the population density is large, or if the population size is small it doesn't mean that the population density is low. We can take as examples the United States and Malta, where the United States have just over 327 million people, but a population density of 33.6 people per square km, while Malta has a population size of just over 493,000, but a population density of 1,457 people per square km.

Ian waterman was able to sense pain and temperature because his _____ pathway was intact, but could not feel touch and limb posi
ANEK [815]
Ian Waterman was able to sense pain and temperature because his spinothalamic pathway was intact, but could not feel touch and limb position because of damage to his lemniscus pathway.

The lateral spinothalamic tract is a sensory pathway which carries sensory information like pain and temperature to the brain, across the thalamus. Free nerve endings which are located in the peripheral tissues are sensitive to cell damage. Those are primary neurons and they pass the sensory signal. Primary neurons synapse with secondary which are located in the spinal cord (white matter). These secondary neurons will ascend through the brainstem, medulla oblongata, pons and midbrain, until synapsing in the ventroposteriorlateral (VPL) nucleus of the thalamus. From the thalamus, the information is sent to cortex (somatosensory cortex).

Posterior column-medial lemniscus pathway is ascending spinal tract, carrying sensory information to the brain (sensory pathway). It conducts localized sensations of fine touch, vibration and proprioception (position sense) from the skin and extremities (muscles) to the central nervous system (cerebral cortex).

What is the colorless, odorless gas that binds to red blood cells causing the body not to get the oxygen it needs?
Juliette [100K]

Answer:

Therefore, when carbon monoxide is present,it blind to hemoglobin preferentially over oxygn. As a result, oxygen cannot blind to hemoglobin ,so very little oxygen is transported through the body carbon monoxide is a colorless odorless gas and is therefore difficult detect.

Lesch-Nyhan syndrome is an X-linked, recessive condition caused by mutation of the HPRT1 gene responsible for purine metabolism.
Elanso [62]

Answer:

B. The father did not contribute a sex chromosome to his daughter due to nondisjunction of the sex chromosomes. The daughter is XO and her only X chromosome came from her mother, who was a carrier.

A.The mother's X chromosomes failed to separate during meiosis, and the daughter inherited two X chromosomes with the Lesch-Nyhan mutation. The father contributed no sex chromosomes.

Explanation:

As seen in the question above, a little girl was diagnosed with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, which is an X-linked recessive condition caused by a mutation in the HPRT1 gene responsible for purine metabolism.

The little girl's parents do not have the syndrome, and no one in the little girl's paternal family presented this syndrome, however, we know that the maternal grandfather of the little girl's mother had the syndrome, which means that it was the mother's genetic material that contributed to the development of the syndrome in the little girl. This was because the little girl did not receive any X chromosomes from her father, but she inherited the two X chromosomes from her mother that coded for the Lesch-Nyhan mutation. This happened because the mother's X chromosome disjuction did not occur during meiosis I.

As shown above, the father did not contribute any sex chromosomes to his daughter, which means that the daughter is XO and her only X chromosome came from her mother, who was a carrier.

Pepsin is an enzyme found in the human stomach that breaks down protein. Pepsin will not break down starch.
Andre45 [30]

The statement which best explains why Pepsin will not break down starch is that enzymes only work for specific substrates.

What is an Enzyme?

This is referred to as a biological catalyst which helps to speed the rate of chemical reaction in the body by lowering the activation energy needed to start it up. it is also proteinous and can be denatured by heat and other substance such as chemicals.

They are also substrate specific which means they can't act on any type of substance. For example enzyme such as amylase acts on only starch while pepsin acts on only protein.
