We know \frac{dy}{dx} expression is used for represent the derivative.

Actually, derivative is the second name of " Rate of Change".

And if we read \frac{dy}{dx}, it represents the "Rate of change of y with respect to x".

In simple words, a derivative is the rate of change or slope of a very small portion of a function.

dy represents very small change in y-coordinate and dx  represents very small change in x-coordinate.

Because deriviate is the second name of " a very small rate of change".

We use \frac{dx}{xy} to represent the derivative.

What are the solutions of the equation x^4 + 6x^2 + 5 = 0? Use u substitution to solve.
Radda [10]

Answer:

second option

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

x^{4} + 6x² + 5 = 0

let u = x², then

u² + 6u + 5 = 0 ← in standard form

(u + 1)(u + 5) = 0 ← in factored form

Equate each factor to zero and solve for u

u + 1 = 0 ⇒ u = - 1

u + 5 = 0 ⇒ u = - 5

Change u back into terms of x, that is

x² = - 1 ( take the square root of both sides )

x = ± \sqrt{-1} = ± i ( noting that \sqrt{-1} = i ), and

x² = - 5 ( take the square root of both sides )

x = ± \sqrt{-5} = ± \sqrt{5(-1)} = ± \sqrt{5} × \sqrt{-1} = ± i\sqrt{5}

Solutions are x = ± i and x = ± i\sqrt{5}

The sum of two numbers is 30. the first number is 1/5 of the second number. what are the numbers?
bonufazy [111]
Same question
x+y=30
x is 1/5 of y
x=y/5
subsitute
y/5+y=30
multily both sidse by 5
y+5y=150
add
6y=150
divide both sides by 6
y=25
subsitute
x=y/5
x=25/5
x=5
the numbers are 5 and 25
