The enthalpy change of a reaction is given as the difference in enthalpies of the products and reactants i.e.

ΔHrxn = ∑ΔH⁰f (products) - ∑ΔH⁰f(reactants)

If ΔH°f(products) > ΔH°f(reactants) then the value of the enthalpy change for the reaction ΔHrxn is positive.

Reactions which show a positive value of ΔHrxn proceed with the absorption of heat and are called as endothermic reactions.

A constant volume of oxygen is heated from 100°C to 155°C. The
dybincka [34]

Answer:

= 3.56 atm

Explanation:

Using Boyle's law which states that the volume of a given mass of gas is inversely proportional to the pressure and Charles law states the volume of a given mass of gas is directly proportional to the temperature.

P1/T1 = P2/T2

P1 = 3.1 atm, T1 = 100'C = 100+273 = 373K

T2 = 155'C = 155 + 273 = 428K

3.1/ 373 = P2 / 428

Cross multiply

373 × P2 = 3.1 × 428

373×P2 = 1326.8

Divide both sides by 373

P2 = 1326.8 ÷ 373

P2 = 3.56 atm
