Consider the diagram of the problem.

Let the vertex be on the y axis, exactly, at the point (0, 40)

Another point of this parabola is (200, 100), as can be checked from the figure.

The vertex form of the equation of a parabola is :

y=a(x-h)^{2}+k, where (h, k) is the vertex of the parabola,

replacing (h, k) with (0, 40), we have:

y=ax^{2}+40

to find a, we substitute (x, y) with (200, 100):

100=a200^{2}+40

40,000a=60

a=60/40,000=3/(2,000)

So, the equation of the parabola is y= \frac{3}{2000} x^{2}+40

Replace P with 15:

d = -3(15)^2 + 168(15) - 315

d = -3(225) + 2520 - 315

d = -675 + 2520 -315

d = 1530

Why would you need inequalities?
77julia77 [94]

Answer:

An inequality is a mathematical expression that contains inequality signs. For example, y≤ 12x is an inequality. Inequalities are used to tell us that an expression is either larger or smaller than another expression. Equations and inequalities can contain both variables and constants.

let's put our equation first

-1.2= y\div2.4 -1.7

Flip the equation

y\div2.4-1.7=-1.2

y\div2.4-1.7=-1.2

{\underline{simplify}}

0.416667y-1.7=-1.2

add 1.7 to both sides

0.416667y=0.5

Divide both sides by 0.416667

y=1.2

{\huge{\boxed{\sf{Answer}}}

y would equal 1.2
