Answer:

The mistress is not as beautiful as natural elements.

Explanation:

In this stanza, Shakespeare tells us that his mistress is not as beautiful as the natural elements of coral and snow. This is unusual for a love sonnet at the time. However, Shakespeare is using this difference to his benefit, as the sonnet is meant to mock or criticize sonnets that present beauty as overly exaggerated and perfect. Instead, Shakespeare tells us in this poem that although his mistress is not as beautiful as these elements, he still loves her.

how does the structure of "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” affect readers' understanding of the story?
Lelechka [254]
Bierce used the literary technique of flashback in his stories. When authors use flashbacks in their works, it can be difficult to keep track of the chronological order of the story's events. Ambrose Bierce uses flashbacks and flash-forwards in "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.” In section 1 of the story, the reader sees a man on a bridge with a noose around his neck and surrounded by soldiers. It’s apparent that the soldiers aim to execute the man, but the reason for his execution is unknown, so some readers might sympathize with the man at this point. Section 2 uses a flashback and shows the circumstances leading to the man being on the verge of execution on the bridge. Readers now learn the man’s history and realize that it’s the man’s foolhardiness that got him into trouble. In section 3, the author uses a flash-forward but tricks the reader into believing that the events taking place are in the present. It's only at the end of the story that readers realize that the man on the bridge never escaped the noose around his neck.

Why might a speaker use colloquial diction intentionally?
Marianna [84]

Speakers use colloquial diction intentionally in order "to align themselves with the audience".

• Colloquial diction refers to the use of local or informal expressions. It is necessary in order for the speaker to be more comfortable with the audience.

• Using colloquial diction is also vital for the audience to understand the message that the speaker is passing.

• Option B is incorrect. Speakers don't use colloquial diction because they don't have other ways of speaking.

• Option C is incorrect. Using colloquial diction doesn't mean that it's cooler.

• Option D us incorrect. Using colloquial diction doesn't mean that the speaker doesn't want to speak to people that are not in a particular group.

• The correct option is "to align themselves with the audience".
