What will happen to the frequency of the recessive allele for the HbS gene when there is an outbreak of malaria?

Answer: The frequency of the recessive allele increases

Explanation: The HbS gene is a variant of the B-globin gene which is responsible for sickle hemoglobin. There is a recessive disorder called sickle cell anemia that is caused by someone having two recessive alleles. When there's an outbreak of Malaria the frequency of the recessive allele of the HbS gene increases because people that are heterozygous have the advantage due to the fact they have normal and sickle hemoglobin so they are more resistant to malaria because malaria will only take action on normal hemoglobin.

I hope that helps you :)

The answer is the frequency of the recessive allele will increase.

HbS gene is a variant of the β-globin gene responsible for sickle hemoglobin. Sickle-cell anemia is a recessive disorder caused by the presence of two recessive alleles. But, when there is an outbreak of malaria, frequency of the recessive allele for the HbS gene will increase. This is because in an area with malaria, heterozygous individuals (with one dominant allele and one recessive allele) have an advantage. These individuals will have both normal and sickle hemoglobin. But pathogen that causes malaria affect only normal hemoglobin, so heterozygous individuals are more resistant to malaria.

Which of these are found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes (choose all that apply)
kaheart [24]

Answer:

The correct answers are option b. "replication bubbles" and d. "replication forks".

Explanation:

The nucleic acids replication systems share some similarities between eukaryotes and prokaryotes. For instance, both organism have replication bubbles. However, prokaryotes have a single replication bubble because its replication process starts from a single origin, while eukaryotes have several replication bubbles. Also, the replication forks are well conserved from prokaryotes to eukaryotes with only some differences among the enzymes present within the fork.

What is John Doe's blood type? A drop of John Doe's blood was
vladimir2022 [97]

Based on the clumping that was obtained when anti-D serum was dropped into John Doe's blood, John Doe's blood type is Blood type D.

What is blood typing?

Blood typing refers to the process by which blood is classified into types.

The process of typing blood involves reactions in which agglutination of blood occurs when a certain type of antiserum is dropped into the blood that contains a particular antigen such that an antibody-antigen pair is obtained.

The presence of certain antigens on the surface of blood helps to classify blood into types.

For example, when anti-A serum is added to a blood sample and agglutination occurs, the blood type could be either blood type A or blood type AB as these blood samples contain the A antigen on the surface of the red blood cells.

Similarly, when anti-D serum is added to a blood sample, the blood type is a blood group D as this blood sample contains the D antigen on the surface of the red blood cells.

Organs _____.
maksim [4K]

Answer:

perform functions that tissues cannot carry out on their own

Explanation:

In the hierarchy of living system organs come after tissues and before organ systems. Hence, organs are complex then tissues and perform functions that tissues wont be able to perform on their own.

A organ is made up of various types of tissues. They can be divided into two categories, main tissue and sporadic tissue. Main tissue or parenchyma is unique to that organ and defines the function of the organ. For example: Cortex and medulla together form the main functional tissue in kidney. Similarly, myocardium is the main tissue of the heart. Sporadic tissue has blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues.
