Answer:

Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act

Explanation:

Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act is also known as US Tariff Act of 1930. It was a legislation to raise the import duties so the American farmers and businesses could be protected.  The legislation got its name from Willis Hawley of Oregon and Reed Smoot of Utah.

Smoot was a senator from Utah and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee while Hawley was chariman of House Ways and Means committee. It was most harsh protectionist tariff in the country's history and raised the import tax by 40 percent.

It was done because American farmers were facing declining prices and competition after first world war during 1920s and the government wanted to improve their situation.  The legislation was passed by narrow margin(44-42) and president Hoover signed the bill on June 17, 1930 and it became a law.

LekaFEV [45]
Lincoln was trying to appeal to Southern voters by picking Andrew Johnson as his running mate. These two men were actually very different politically speaking. Lincoln was a Republican, Andrew Johnson was a Democrat. Lincoln was from the Midwest US, Andrew Johnson was from Tennessee.

Lincoln knew that having a Democratic Vice President who once represented a Confederate state (Tennessee) would allow his presidency to appeal to a wider range of voters.

Why did Nikita Khrushchev want the western zones of Berlin under control of East Germany? He wanted to keep skilled East German
butalik [34]

Answer:

He wanted to keep skilled East German workers from moving to West Berlin.

Explanation:

To impede the constant crossing of large numbers of East Berliners and East Germans to West Berlin, controlled by the Western powers, was the main motive behind the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961. It meant to stop the loss of skilled workers, too. This measure was decided by the German communist authorities and it must have had Soviet approval. Nikita Khrushchev was the Soviet top leader at the time.
