M&S Problem 2.47 (extended) An electric motor operating at steady state draws a current of 20 ap at a voltage of 110 V. The

output shaft rotates at a constant speed of 2000 RPM and exerts a torque of 9.07 N-m. Determine (a) the magnitude of the power input in W; (b) the output power, in W; (c) the magnitude and direction of any heat transfer that must be present, in W; and (d) the cost of 224 hours of operation if electricity is valued at $0.11 per kW-hr.

Answer:

a) 2.2 KW

b) 1899.616 W

c) 300.383 W

d) $54.208

Explanation:

Given:

- current drawn by motor i = 20 Amps

- Voltage supplied V = 110 V

- speed of shaft N = 2000 rpm

- Torque of the shaft T = 9.07 N-m

Find:

(a) the magnitude of the power input in W

(b) the output power, in W

(c) the magnitude and direction of any heat transfer that must be present, in W

(d) the cost of 224 hours of operation if electricity is valued at $0.11 per kW-hr.

Solution:

(a)

W_in = P = i * V

W_in = (20 Amps)*(110 V) = 2200 W

(b)

W_out = T*w

W_out = (2*pi*N*T) / 60 = (2*pi*2000*9.07) / 60

W_out = 1899.616 W

(c)

Q_loss = W_in - W_out

Q_loss = 2200 - 1899.616

Q_loss = 300.383 W

(d)

Cost = Rate * W_in*time

Cost = ($ 0.11 / KW-h) * (2.2 KW)*(224 h)

Cost = $54.208

If a car takes a banked curve at less than the ideal speed, friction is needed to keep it from sliding toward the inside of the
PolarNik [594]

Answer:

a. v₁ = 16.2 m/s

b. μ = 0.251

Explanation:

Given:

θ = 15 ° , r = 100 m , v₂ = 15.0 km / h

a.

To determine v₁ to take a 100 m radius curve banked at 15 °

tan θ = v₁² / r * g

v₁ = √ r * g * tan θ

v₁ = √ 100 m * 9.8 m/s² * tan 15° = 16.2 m/s

b.

To determine μ friction needed for a frightened

v₂ = 15.0 km / h * 1000 m / 1 km * 1h / 60 minute * 1 minute / 60 seg

v₂ = 4.2 m/s

fk = μ * m * g

a₁ = v₁² / r = 16.2 ² / 100 m = 2.63 m/s²

a₂ = v₂² / r = 4.2 ² / 100 m = 0.18 m/s²

F₁ = m * a₁ , F₂ = m * a₂

fk = F₁ - F₂ ⇒ μ * m * g = m * ( a₁ - a₂)

μ * g = a₁ - a₂ ⇒ μ = a₁ - a₂ / g

μ = [ 2.63 m/s² - 0.18 m/s² ] / (9.8 m/s²)

μ = 0.251

Which best compares a nondigital and a digital camera?
Fed [463]

Answer:

The correct statement is A nondigital camera uses film to record images, and a digital camera uses sensors.

Explanation:

A non digital camera uses a film and it works on the basis of light which is either produced by the flash light or sunlight. On the other hand a digital camera has its own sensors which has the ability to provide an option of low light compensation and it also allows the user to adjust the light controls digitally with the help of existing sensors.
