There should be another equation in order to solve this problem using simultaneous equations.

Otherwise, there will be more than one solution to this problem as there are different combinations of values for ( x ) & ( y ) which can be given.

For example, one answer could be:

x = 2

y = - 1 / 2

So if we substitute the values into the equation it would be as follows:

5x + 4y = 8

5 ( 2 ) + 4 ( - 1 / 2 ) = 8

10 + - 2 = 8

10 - 2 = 8

8 = 8

Another answer could be:

x = 4

y = - 3

So if we substitute the values into the equation it would be as follows:

5x + 4y = 8

5 ( 4 ) + 4 ( - 3 ) = 8

20 + - 12 = 8

20 - 12 = 8

8 = 8

As you can see, there are more than one solution for this equation. So unless the problem is asking you to just give one of various solutions and isn't asking for one definitive solution, then you will require another equation in order to solve this problem.

Step-by-step explanation:

You need to know some geometry rules.

For example:

Angle sum of a triangle is equal to 180 degrees.

Straight line is equal to 180 degrees.

Other rules I have attached.

Question 6 of 10
Crank

Answer:

A, D

Step-by-step explanation:

When solving for x, we want to get all x terms on one side and all non-x terms on the other side. To make it so that x is by itself, we need to get rid of -3. We can do this by adding 3 to both sides, which demonstrates the addition property of equality. This property states that if you add a quantity to one side of an equation, you must add the same quantity to the other side as well.
