vlabodo [156]

Answer:

Each Monday, this column turns a page in history to explore the discoveries, events and people that continue to affect the history being made today.

You've got the gold I need for my necklace and I've got the silk you need for your robe.

What to do?

Nowadays, if you need something, you go to the closest mall, shell out a few bucks and head home. Thousands of years ago, the process wasn't nearly as simple. If you or someone in your town didn't grow it, herd it or make it, you needed to abandon that desire or else travel for it, sometimes over great distances. For many towns, the effort of trade was too much. Those ancient towns make only rare appearances in our history books.

What similarities and differences can you identify in the two depictions of the Boston Massacre at right?
elena55 [62]

The best known of the engravings depicting the Boston Massacre was made by Paul Revere in 1770, but several other versions appeared in Massachusetts and London over the next two years. Each of these images was made to express outrage at the actions of the British troops and to solicit support for the Patriot cause. The images of the confrontation between the soldiers and the townspeople are significant and compelling, but are historically inaccurate. The artists influenced public opinion by depicting a line of Redcoats firing point-blank into a defenseless crowd, when in fact there was no such organized military action and the civilians were an unruly mob of sixty.

How do trade barriers affect the African economy today
drek231 [11]

Trade barriers come in many forms. Quota is one. This is when a country sets a limit to the imported products. This is done for a number of reasons. One is because the government of the importing country wants to protect its domestic manufacturers. Other barriers or limitations are added costs such as tariffs, duties, and taxes.
