If someone is diagnosed with strep throat, they have been infected with a A. bacteria<span>. The bacteria responsible for strep throat is known as Streptococcus pyogenes, or group A Streptococcus. Because the disease is due to a bacterial infection, it can be treated using antibiotics.</span>
