Question 9 of 10 Mrs. Hall records the heights of 50 students in a spreadsheet. The mean height is 68 inches. After looking at t

he data again, she realized that two of the 50 observations were outliers that must have been typos, 82 and 86 inches. She deleted these two observations. What is the new mean, rounded to the nearest hundredth?

Answer: 67.33

--------------------------------------

Explanation:

S = sum of the 50 heights
Dividing the sum S over 50 gets us the average height
S/50 = 68
S = 50*68
S = 3400

So adding up the 50 heights leads to 3400
The two values 82 and 86 are kicked out, so we subtract them off 3400
3400-82-86 = 3232

Now divide by 48 since we excluded 2 values from the initial 50
3232/48 = 67.333333
which is approximate
This rounds to 67.33

How many real solutions does this system of equations have? x^2 + y^2 = 36
Vinvika [58]

Answer:

C:  there are two real solutions

Step-by-step explanation:

x^2 + y^2 = 36 is the equation of a circle centered at the origin and with radius √36, or 6.  Even a rough sketch of this circle would enable you to visualize what is happening here.

3x – y + 1 = 0 may be solved for y:  y = 3x + 1.  The y-intercept of this straight line is (0, 1).  Plot this point inside the circle of radius 6 mentioned above and then draw a straight line with slope m = 3 through it.  This line will intersect the circle in two places; they represent real solutions.

Alternatively, substitute 3x + 1 for y in x^2 + y^2 = 36:

x^2 + (3x + 1)^2 = 36, or

x^2 + 9x^2 + 6x + 1 = 36, or

10 x^2 + 6x + 1 - 36 = 0, or

10 x^2 + 6x - 35 = 0.  This is a quadratic equation.  We'll use the quadratic formula to find solutions which represent the intersections of this line with this circle:

The coefficients are a = 10, b = 6 and c = -35.  Thus, the discriminant is

b^2 - 4ac, or 6^2 - 4(10)(-35), or 1436.

Because the discriminant is positive, we can safely conclude that there are two real solutions, that is, two different, real x-values, each representing the x-coordinate of a point of intersection of the circle and the line.

The correct answer to this prolem is C:  there are two real solutions.

Have a look of the drawing... What is "d" value? I have tried many methods but don't find how to solve... Pleaseeee
Phoenix [80]
I´d say "d" is the distance from the eye to the wall.
Now substracting 1.2-1 you´ll get the distance of the wall of the smallest triangle = 0.2 And you do 1.5-0.2= 0.3 that´s the distance of the wall of the other triangle. Then you solve everything with Pitagoras theorem. You have 2 rectangle triangles.
B+alfa=45°
tan^-1(0.2/d)=B
tan^-1(1.3/d)=alfa
THEN:
tan^-1(0.2/d)+tan^-1(1.3/d)=45°
 Now you have 3 ecs and 3 variables.
alfa,B and "d"

Neveah has created the function of f(x) = 2x+4/3 to represent the growth of her hair, where x represents the number of months si
Andre45 [30]
F(x)=2x+4/3

Replace f(x) by y:
y=2x+4/3

Solving for x:
y-4/3=2x+4/3-4/3

Subtracting the two terms on the left side of the equation:
(3y-4)/3=2x

Dividing both sides of the equation by 2:
[(3y-4)/3]/2=2x/2
[(3y-4)/3]*(1/2)=x
[(3y-4)*1]/[(3)*(2)]=x
(3y-4)/6=x
x=(3y-4)/6

Replace "x" by "f^(-1) (x)" (inverse function) and "y" by "x":
f^(-1) (x) = (3x-4)/6   Inverse function

Then, for x=6
f^(-1) (6) = [ 3(6)-4]/6
f^(-1) (6) = (18-4)/6
f^(-1) (6)= 14/6
f^(-1) (6) = 7/3

Her hair will have grown 6 after 7/3 = 2.33 months
