The third-place finisher of the Allen County hot dog eating contest, in which each contestant was given an equal amount of time

to eat as many hot dogs as possible, required an average of 15 seconds to consume each hot dog. How many hot dogs did the winner eat? (1) The winner consumed 24 more hot dogs than did the third-place finisher. (2) The winner consumed hot dogs at double the rate of the third-place finisher.

Answer:

Third placer consumed 24 hot dogs.

Winner consumed 48 hot dogs.

Step-by-step explanation:

Lets assume that the third runner up eats x hot dogs.

The total time for the contest is 15x seconds.

Given is that the winner ate (x+24) hot dogs

The winner's rate of eating is 1 hot dog per 7.5 seconds.

And we know the rate = \frac{totaltime}{number of hot dogs eaten}

We get;

\frac{15x}{x+24} =7.5

(x+24)7.5=15x

7.5x+180=15x

7.5x=180

x = 24 (third placer)

And the winner consumed 24+24=48 hot dogs.

Which ordered pairs are solutions to the inequality 2x + y > 8 ? Choose all answers that are correct.
gtnhenbr [62]
Hi again!

2x + y > 8

The correct answer is option D
-------------------------------------------

Honestly I don't think we can solve the equation to find the answer. What we can do is to find the boundary line. (I think you know what that is) After that, shading the appropriate area.

y > -2x + 8

Again, credit to my beautiful graphing calculator. Here is how it looks like.

Mr Nelson paid $3.84 tax he pay the sales tax rate of 8% how much was item he was buying before sales tax was added
UkoKoshka [18]

Answer:

Mr. Nelson paid $48 befor tax.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the price of the item before tax.

108 % * x - x = 3.84 (the tax itself)

27/25x - x = 3.84

2/25 x = 3.84

x = 48

If the perimeter of a square field measures 440 yards , what is the length of each side ?
NARA [144]
Since it is a square, all sides are equal.
Divide the 440 by 4 to find the length of each side.
440/4 = 110 yards

1. What is an equation for the line with slope 2/3 and y-intercept 9?
Monica [59]
Question 1:

 The generic equation of the line is given by:
 y = mx + b

 Where,
 m: slope of the line
 b: cutting point with the y axis
 Substituting values we have:
 y = \frac{2}3}x + 9

 Answer:
 an equation for the line with slope 2/3 and y-intercept is:
 y = \frac{2}3}x + 9

 Question 2:

 The standard equation of the line is given by:
 y-yo = m (x-xo)

 Where,
 m: slope of the line
 (xo, yo): ordered pair that belongs to the line
 The slope of the line is:
 m =  \frac{y2-y1}{x2-x1}
 Substituting values:
 m = \frac{1-(-3)}{3-1}
 m = \frac{1+3}{3-1}
 m = \frac{4}{2}
 m = 2

 We choose an ordered pair:
 (xo, yo) = (3, 1)

 Substituting values:
 y-1 = 2 (x-3)

 Rewriting:
 y = 2x - 6 + 1

y = 2x - 5
 Answer:
 An equation in slope-intercept form for the line that passes through the points (1, -3) and (3,1) is:
 y = 2x - 5

 Question 3:

 For this case, since the variation is direct, then we have an equation of the form:
 y = kx
 Where,
 k: constant of variation.
 We then have the following equation:
 -4y = 8x
 Rewriting we have:
 y = \frac{8}{-4}x

 y = -2x
 Therefore, the constate of variation is given by:
 k = -2

 Answer:
 the constant of variation is:
 k = -2

 Question 4:

 For this case, since the variation is direct, then we have an equation of the form:
 y = kx
 Where,
 k: constant of variation.
 We must find the constant k, for this we use the following data:
 y = 24 when x = 8
 Substituting values:
 24 = k8
 Clearing k we have:
 k =  \frac{24}{8}

 k = 3

 Therefore, the equation is:
 y = 3x
 Thus, substituting x = 10 we have that the value of y is given by:
 y = 3 (10)

y = 30 Answer:
 the value of y when x = 10 is:
 y = 30
