External attribution or situational attribution is a type of attribution that suggests individuals attribute the cause of an event to external factors such as the situation surrounding a given entity that brings about a certain response from that entity.
When distinctiveness is high, consensus is high and consistency is high, people tend to attribute the cause of a behavior to external factors-external attribution.
