The relationship between society and tides and currents is obvious as coastal cities built to withstand prescribed levels of tidal surge are now being impacted by record breaking tidal surges, and the building of solid coastal structures do not allow waves to dissipate energy on land but deflect their energy to other coastal areas along the shore.
