Mathematics

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

First, determine what you know.

Wins plus losses equals total games.

Total games=84

Choose variables for wins(w) and losses(s). (I chose 's' because a small L can be confusing.

            wins=w

         losses=s

w+s=84           wins+losses=total games

The question say they won 10 more than they lost, so...

w=s+10

So take our w+s=84 and plug in the new information.

w           +         s           =84

s+10     +s    =84                  Now solve by combining like terms.

s+10+s=84           Becomes 2s+10=84             Now move the ten to the other side of the equals.  Remember anything you do on one side of the equals, you must do on the other side. To move something across the eguals sign you do the opposite sign.  To move +10 we will -10. So..

2s+10-10=84-10       Then simplify, to get...

2s=74       Then you need to get the two to the other side.  It is being multiplied, so we will divide it.

2s/2=74/2   Leaving us with ...

s=37  Remember that s is what we subistuted for losses and we need to know wins(w).  Look back at our w equation...w=s+10.   Just plug in the s.

w=37+10      Now simplify, add

w=47  Check your work.  Does 47+37=84?

It does.

Answer: The team won 47 games.

Step-by-step explanation: The total games played was 84, and that means all games added together, but victories and losses. If the games they lost is called X, and the team won 10 more games than it lost, then it means the games they won is X + 10.

To find the value of wins and losses, we can now express both properly as;

X + (X +10) = 84

2X + 10 = 84

Subtract 10 from both sides of the equation

2X = 74

Divide both sides of the equation by 2

X = 37.

If the number of games won is X + 10, then games won is derived as

Wins = X + 10

Wins = 37 + 10

Wins = 47

The team won 47 games

Question 4
lawyer [7]

Answer:

18ft

Step-by-step explanation:

L = length

W = width

l = w + 2ft ; because the is 2 ft longer than width

The area of a rectangle is lw

You can take the first equation ( l = w + 2 ) and plug it in lw

like this: lw ---> (w+2)w = w^2+2w

then from the question you get: w^2+2w=19.25

you use the quadratic formula and get w = 3.5

then from the first equation, you get l = 3.5+ 2 so the length is 5.5

lastly, you use the perimeter formula: 2(l+w) so 2(9) = 18

so 18ft
