Gene mutations and evolution

The production of mutations in DNA molecules is known as mutagenesis. Changes in DNA sequence or chromosome rearrangement are just two examples of mutations that can occur in DNA. These mutations can happen on their own, as a result of mistakes made during DNA replication or mitosis. Natural selection requires genetic variety, which is produced by spontaneous mutations.

The process by which populations of organisms change over generations is known as evolution. These modifications are caused by genetic differences. Different features in an organism can be introduced by genetic differences that modify gene activity or protein function. If a characteristic is beneficial and helps an individual survive and reproduce, it is more likely to be handed down to the following generation (a process known as natural selection).

Explanation:

An essential part of science is asking questions.

A good scientific question is that it can be answered by direct observations or with scientific tools.

Does adding fertilizer to the soil help plants grow faster?

      What do pelicans eat?

Why are my neighbors going to the mall?

Examples of questions that are not scientific are based on values or opinions like what people believe is right or wrong, or beautiful or ugly.

Anestetic [448]

Answer:

Option D, The DDT killed susceptible flies. The few that were already naturally resistant survived and passed this resistance on to their offspring.

Explanation:

When DDT was sprayed for the first time, some of the house flies which were not capable enough to withstand the adverse effects of DDT , eventually died. And the butterflies that survived through this, were having a natural resistance against DDT. Now, with time these DDT resistant houseflies mated and produced offspring that had genetic trait of resisting DDT by birth. This is the reason, why houseflies after ten years were as abundant as ten years back when the control program was started.

Option D is correct
