<u>Question 1 solution:</u>
You have two unknowns here:

Let the Water current speed = W

Let Rita's average speed = R

We are given <em>two </em>situations, where we can form <em>two equations</em>, and therefore solve for the <em>two unknowns, W, R</em>:

Part 1)  W→ , R←(against current, upstream)
If Rita is paddling at 2mi/hr against the current, this means that the current is trying to slow her down. If you look at the direction of the water, it is "opposing" Rita, it is "opposite", therefore, our equation must have a negative sign for water<span>:

</span>R–W=2  - equation 1

Part 2)  W→ , R<span>→</span>(with current)
Therefore, R+W=3  - equation 2

From equation 1, W=R-2,
Substitute into equation 2.
R+(R–2)=3
2R=5
R=5/2mi/hr

So when W=0 (still), R=5/2mi/hr

Finding the water speed using the same rearranging and substituting process:

1...               R=2+W
2...  (2+W)+W=3
                 2W=1
                   W=1/2mi/hr

The circumference of Circle F is 72 cm. What is the length of Arc DE (the minor arc)?
Tom [10]

You need to first set up the equation:

It would look like 90 divided by 360 multiplied by the given circumference which is 72 cm.

So 90 / 360 x 72

Simply the fraction above, it will give us:

¼ x 72

So the answer would be 18 cm that is the length of DE (minor arc)

How many solutions does the equation have?
Salsk061 [2.6K]

Answer: there is only one solution

Step-by-step explanation:

Combine like terms by performing the opposite operation of subtracting 4x on both sides of the equation

The 4x's will cross out on the right

4x - 4x = 0x = 0

On the left:

2x - 4x = -2x

Now the equation looks like:

-2x + 3 = 2

Continue to combine like terms by subtracting 3 on both sides of the equation

On the left:

3 - 3 = 0

On the right:

2 - 3 = -1

Equation:

-2x = -1

Isolate x by performing the opposite operation of dividing -2 on both sides of the equation

On the left:

-2x ÷ -2 = 1

On the right:

-1 ÷ -2 = 1/2

x= 1/2

A bag contains seven tiles labeled B, C, D, E, F, G, and H. One tile will be randomly picked. What is the probability of picking
Licemer1 [7]

Answer:

\sf \dfrac{1}{7}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given labeled tiles: B, C, D, E, F, G, H

Total number of tiles = 7

Vowels = A, E, I, O and U

⇒ Total number of vowel tiles in bag = 1

\sf Probability\:of\:an\:event\:occurring = \dfrac{Number\:of\:ways\:it\:can\:occur}{Total\:number\:of\:possible\:outcomes}

\implies \sf Probability\:of\:picking\:a\:vowel= \dfrac{Number\:of\:vowel\:tiles}{Total\:number\:of\:tiles}=\dfrac{1}{7}

Expand and simplify: (-7y - 8) (y - 4)
ZanzabumX [31]
<h2><u>Simplification</u></h2>

<h3>Expand and simplify: (-7y - 8) (y - 4)</h3>

To expand an expression, use FOIL method.

<h3><u>F - First</u></h3>

  • Multiply the first term in each expression inside the parentheses.

<u>-7y</u> and <u>y</u> are the first terms in <u>each expression</u>.

<u>(-7y)(y) = -7y²</u>

<h3><u>O - Outside </u></h3>

  • Next is to multiply the terms outside. (The first term in the first expression and the last term in the second expression)

<u>-7y</u> is the first term in the <u>first expression</u>

<u>-4</u> is the last term of the <u>second expression</u>

<u>(-7y)(-4) = 28y</u>

<h3><u>I - Inside</u></h3>

  • The next step is to multiply the terms inside. (The last term in the first expression and the first term in the last expression)

<u>-8</u> is the last term in the <u>first expression</u>

<u>y</u> is the first term in the <u>second expression</u>

<u>(-8)(y) = -8y</u>

<h3><u>L - Last</u></h3>

  • Last step is to multiply the last term in each expression.

<u>-8</u> is the last term of the <u>first expression</u>

<u>-4</u> is the last term of the <u>second expression</u>

<u>(-8)(-4) = 32</u>

Combine all simplified terms.

  • -7y² + 28y - 8y + 32
  • -7y + 20y + 32

<u>Answer:</u>

  • <u>-7y + 20y + 32</u>
