factors are basically numbers that can multiply by another number to get a certain number

for example, the factors of 12: 1,2,3,4,6,12

you should count from the lowest to highest number to make it easier for u.

look at 1 and 12 in the sequence. 1 x 12 = 12

now look at 2 and 6. 2 x 6 = 12

now look at 3 and 4. 3 x 4 = 12

see what i mean?

an example of a non-factor would be 5. 5 can't multiply by anything to get 12. You need to find numbers between 1 and the certain number (12 in this example) and you need to find numbers that can multiply by another number to get that certain number but u can't go beyond the certain number. 7 can't multiply by anything to get 12. if u still don't understand, here is an easier way to help u.

the best thing to do is write the numbers from 1 - 12. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12

once u do that, you need to ask yourself: which numbers can multiply to get 12? 1 can multiply by a number to get 12. 2 can. 3 can. 4 can. <em>5 can't. </em>once you find a number that you can't multiply by, that is <em>not </em>a factor of the certain number you're looking for.
