If I read the question correctly, the information about the 80x80 fencing and the grass region are all irrelevant information.

In order to find the area of the side walk we are going to use the formula A=pi(r^2) where r = the radius. The diameter of the pool is 60 feet and the the sidewalk is 5 feet bigger all around meaning we had 5 feet to both sides of this 60 feet giving you an overall diameter of 70 feet (or 60 + 5*2). To find the radius take half of the diameter. 70/2 = 35.

Now we plug in 35 to the equation. A = Pi(35^2) = 1225pi. Leave your answer like this as we are not finished and will need to round at the end for an accurate answer. This is NOT the end, that number is the area of the sidewalk AND the pool.

The sidewalk is not a full circle, just a border so we now have to find the area of the actual pool and subtract it from this 1225pi for the sidewalk's area. Same formula, Area = pi(r^2). The diameter of the pool is 60 meaning the radius is 30 (or 60/2). Plug into the equation, pi(30^2) = 900pi.

Now do 1225pi - 900pi to get 325pi. Break out your calculator and hit the approximation button. 325pi is approximately 1021.018 if rounded to 3 decimal places.

The area of the 5-foot wide sidewalk encircling the pool is approximately 1021.018 square feet.

The local theater is showing a matinee and offering a special deal for the community. A ticket for an adult costs $11 and a tick
Irina-Kira [14]

First, x+y=60 and solve for x

x= 60-y

Then set up the equation 11x+6y=460

Since, x=60-y, you plug in for y

11(60-y)+6y=460

660-11y+6y=460

660-5y=460

660-660-5y=460-660

-5y=-200

Divide both sides by 5 (you can drop the negative because they are both negative)

5y/5 = 200/5

y=40

Then take y & plug it back into the original equation of:

x+y = 60 (solve for x)

x+40=60

x+40-40=60-40

x=20

The answer is 20 adult tickets (x) and 40 child tickets (y) were sold.

A train travels 16 miles in 20 minutes At this rate , how many minutes will it take to trace 12 miles?
umka2103 [35]

Answer:

15 minutes

Step-by-step explanation:

You must find the unit rate.

You can find this by dividing 16 miles by 20 minutes

This formula would find how many per minute

The answer would be .64 miles per minutes.

Then Multiply .64 by 12 which would give you the answer of 7.68

Robert's dog is 4 years older than Karen's cat. In 3 years, the sum of the ages of Robert's dog and Karen's cat will be 13. How
mylen [45]

Answer:

5.5 years old.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let D represent present age of Robert's dog and C represent present age of Karen's cat.

We have been given that Robert's dog is 4 years older than Karen's cat. We can represent this information in an equation as:

D=C+4...(1)

We are also told that in 3 years, the sum of the ages of Robert's dog and Karen's cat will be 13. After 3 years age of dog and cat would be D+3 and C+3 respectively.

We can represent this information in an equation as:

D+3+C+3=13...(2)

From equation (1), we will get:

C=D-4

Upon substituting this value in equation (2), we will get:

D+3+D-4+3=13

Combine like terms:

2D+2=13

2D+2-2=13-2

2D=11

\frac{2D}{2}=\frac{11}{2}

D=5.5

Therefore, Robert's dog is 5.5 years old right now.
