How can some students leave a big fear they feel when they have to explain a project in front of their classmates?

You can leave this fear behind by practicing all the time in front of people...Even your family is a great audience to practice in front of! Move your way up over time from super people shy to completely comfortable presenting in front of people! Do this at least a month before you have to be presenting.
