A primary succession can be described as the development of an ecosystem in an area where there was no form or sign of life before. For example, in the above scenario, a glacier did not support any form of life but it formed a new mountain lake where little life was seen initially. With the passage of time, a pioneer community will develop and get converted into a climax community.
In contrary, a secondary succession can be described as a type of succession which occur in areas where life existed before but was destroyed due to human or natural disasters.
