If an endocrine gland were the cause, it would be parathyroid gland.

<u>Explanation:</u>

Decreased production of parathyroid hormone caused by the decreased activity of parathyroid gland is termed as hypothyroidism.This lowers the production of calcium in the body leading to muscle spasms and involuntary muscle contraction termed as tetany.

The condition might be caused by genetic factors, thyroid or parathyroid gland surgery or damage related to immune system. Blood tests are commonly used to diagnose the condition and sometimes genetic testing too might help.
