The independent variable is M,  Miles.
This is because you can walk however miles without any effect. But calories depends on how much you  walked.  Make sense?

The equation of a circle is (x−11) ²+(y+15) ²=144.
Archy [21]

For this case we have that by definition, the general equation of the circle is given by:

(x-h) ^ 2 + (y-k) ^ 2 = r ^ 2

Where,

  • <em>(h, k): it is the center of the circle </em>
  • <em>r: radius of the circle </em>

We then have the following equation:

(x-11) ^ 2 + (y + 15) ^ 2 = 144

Comparing values we have:

For the center of the circle :

(h, k) :( 11, -15)

For the radius:

r ^ 2 = 144\\r = \sqrt {144}\\r = 12

Then, the diameter is given by:

d = 2r\\d = 2 (12)\\d = 24

Answer:

Johnny is wrong:

The center of the circle is (11, -15)

Joyce is wrong:

The diameter of the circle is 24

The faces of a tetrahedron die are numbered 1 to 4. if each of the 4 sides is equally likely to land down, what is the probabili
Hoochie [10]

The probability distribution for the face landing down =  4/15

<h3>What is the probability?</h3>

The area of mathematics known as probability deals with numerical descriptions of how likely it is for an event to happen or for a claim to be true. A number between 0 and 1 is the probability of an event, where, broadly speaking, 0 denotes the event's impossibility and 1 denotes its certainty.

<h3>According to the given information:</h3>

If we assign 1 probability x

then 2 has probability  1/2 x.

Similarly,

then 3 has probability = 1/2((1/2)*x) = (1/4)*x

so

then 4 has probability = 1/2((1/4)*x) = (1/8)*x

These probabilities need to sum to 1.

Hence:

                x+\frac{1}{2} x+\frac{1}{4} x+\frac{1}{8} x=1

or equivalently

                   (15/8)*x = 1

                       x = 8/15

the probability distribution for the face landing down  = (1/2)*(8/15)

                                                                                         = 8/30

                                                                                         =  4/15

I understand that the question you are looking for is:

A tetrahedral die has four faces, numbered 1-4. If the die is weighted in such a way that each number is twice as likely to land facing down as the next number (1 twice as likely as 2, 2 twice as likely as 3, and so on) what is the probability distribution for the face landing down?

polet [3.4K]

Answer: if the blue rectangles are x, then x = 1/2

1/2 + 1/2 = 1

the green shapes each = 1

so you have 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 which is true so

F(x) = 2/3x - 1......f(x) represents y

to find ur points, sub in any number for x and solve for f(x) or y
lets let x = 0

y = 2/3(0) - 1
y = -1
so when x = 0, y = -1......so (0,-1) is one point

let x = 3
y = 2/3x - 1
y = 2/3(3) - 1
y = 6/3 - 1
y = 2 - 1
 y = 1.....so when x = 3, y = 1....(3,1) <== another point

let x = 6
y = 2/3(6) - 1
y = 12/3 - 1
y = 4 - 1
y = 3....so when x = 6, y = 3.....(6,3) <== another point

let x = 9
y = 2/3(9) - 1
y = 18/3 - 1
y = 6 - 1
y = 5.....so when x = 9, y = 5....(9,5) <== another point

let x = 12
y = 2/3(12) - 1
y = 24/3 - 1
y = 8 - 1
y = 7...so when x = 12, y = 7....(12,7) <== ur fifth point

=========================
f(x) = 2/3x - 1
y = 2/3x - 1....in y = mx + b form, ur b represents the y int. So ur y intercept(where the line cross the y axis) is (0,-1)

to find the x intercept, sub in 0 for y and solve for x
y = 2/3x - 1
0 = 2/3x - 1
-2/3x = -1
x = -1 * -3/2
x = 3/2.....so ur x int (where ur line crosses the x axis) is (3/2,0)

now just plot all the points we just found, connect them, and they should make a straight line
