A certain test preparation course is designed to help students improve their scores on the GRE exam. A mock exam is given at the
Westkost [7]

Answer:

(0.25 ; 21.75)

8.7 (1 decimal place)

Step-by-step explanation:

Net change in scores : X = 6,14,12,23,0

Sample mean, xbar = (6 + 14 + 12 + 23 + 0) /5 = 55 /5 = 11

Sample standard deviation, s = 8.66 ( from calculator)

Sample standard deviation = 8.7( 1 decimal place)

Sample size, n = 5

The 95% confidence interval; we use t, because n is small

Tcritical at 95%, df = 4 - 1 = 3 ; Tcritical = 2.776

Xbar ± standard Error

Standard Error = Tcritical * s/√n

Standard Error = 2.776 * 8.66/√5

Standard Error = 10.751086 = 10.75

Lower boundary = (11 - 10.75) = 0.25

Upper boundary = (11 + 10.75) = 21.75

What is the radius of the circle inscribed in triangle $abc$ if $ab = 12, ac=14, bc=16$? express your answer in simplest radical
GalinKa [24]
The triangle given above is a scalene triangle as non of its given sides are equal. To determine the area of the triangle, we use the Heron's formula which is expressed as below,
    A = sqrt ((s)(s - a)(s - b)(s - c))

where a, b, and c are the lengths of the sides and s is the semiperimeter ((a+b+c)/2)

The area of the triangle can also be computed through the equation, A = rs
where r is the radius of the inscribed circle. Equating both areas,
     A = sqrt ((s)(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)) = rs
Divide the equation by s,
      r = sqrt ((s)(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)) / s

Solving for s,
    s = (12+14+16)/2 = 21

Substituting to the equation for r,
    r = sqrt ((21)(21-12)(21-14)(21-16)) 21
    r = sqrt 15
    r = 3.87
