On March 1, 2018, Shipley Resources entered into an agreement with the state of Alaska to obtain the rights to operate a mineral

mine for $6 million. The mine is expected to produce 100,000 tons of mineral. As part of the agreement, Shipley agrees to restore the land to its original condition after mining operations are completed in approximately five years. Management has provided the following possible outflows for the restoration costs that will occur five years from now:

Answer:

B) $20,697.

Explanation:

For computing the accretion expense, first we have to determine the present value which is shown below:

Present value would be

= Annual cash flows × PVIF factor for five years at 10%

where,

Annual cash flows would be

= Probability × cash outflows + Probability × cash outflows + Probability × cash outflows

= 25% × $300,000 + 50% × $400,000 + 25% × $500,000

= $75,000 + $200,000 + $125,000

= $400,000

And, the PVIF would be 0.62092. Refer to the PVIF table

So, the present value would be

= $400,000 ×  0.62092

= $248,368

Now the accretion expense would be

= $248,368 × 10% × 10 months ÷ 12 months

= $20,697

The 10 months are computed from March 1 to December 31 and we assume the books are closed on December 31

Alecsey [184]

Answer:

a) Journal entries to record the sale on January 2, 2020:

Debit Accounts Receivable with $407,000

Credit Sales Account with $368,500

Credit Deferred Revenue (Installation Fee) with $38,500

Being sales of goods and installation services.

b) Income Statement for 1st Quarter of 2020

Sales  -  $368,500

Installation Fee - $19,250

Total Income - $387,750

less cost of sales - $320,000

Net Income - $67,750

c) The revenue Shaw should recognize in relation to the sale to Ricard is $387,750 (goods and accrued installation fee).  The installation fee to be recognized is for 3 months only.

Explanation:

The installation fee is for 6 months.  Therefore, 3 months' worth of fee will be recognized in the income statement ending on March 31, 2020.

oksano4ka [1.4K]

Answer: Option (A) is correct.

Explanation:

It was given that consumer prefers Adidas to puma brand soccer cleats but he buys puma brand soccer cleats. This is only because of the price theory and rational consumer choice. We know that a rational consumer will choose a product with a lower price. Both puma and Adidas brand soccer cleats are substitutes, thus, if the price of puma cleats is lower than the Adidas cleats then he should prefer puma brand soccer cleats.
