Method 1.

Use the formula of a distance between two points:

A(x_A;\ y_A),\ B(x_B;\ y_B)\\\\d=\sqrt{(x_B-x_A)^2+(y_B-y_A)^2}

We have

A(-4,\ 5)\to x_A=-4,\ y_A=5\\B(2,\ -3)\to x_B=2,\ y_B=-3

substitute

|AB|=\sqrt{(-3-5)^2+(2-(-4))^2}=\sqrt{(-8)^2+6^2}=\sqrt{64+36}=\sqrt{100}=10

Answer: 10

Method 2

Look at the picture.

Use the Pythagorean theorem:

x^2=6^2+8^2\\\\x^2=36+64\\\\x^2=100\to x=\sqrt{100}\\\\x=10

15. A cylindrical glass 10 cm tall and 8 cm in diameter is filled to 1 cm
ANTONII [103]

Answer:

No. The new height of the water is less than the height of the glass(6.33 cm<10 cm)

Step-by-step explanation:

-For the water in the glass to overflow, the volume of the inserted solid must be greater than the volume of the empty space or the ensuing height of  water >height of glass.

#Volume of the golf ball:

V=\frac{4}{3}\pi r^3\\\\=\frac{4}{3}\pi \times 4^3\\\\\approx 268.08\ cm^3

#The volume of the water in the glass:

V=\pi r^2 h\\\\=\pi \times 4^2\times 10\\\\\approx 50.27\ cm^2

We then equate the two volumes to the glass' volume to determine the new height of the water:

V=\pi r^2h\\\\(206.08+50.27)=\pi r^2 h\\\\h=318.35/(\pi \times 4^2)\\\\=6.33\ cm

Hence, the glass will not overflow since the new height of the water is less than the height of the glass(6.33 cm<10cm).

A meteorologist reports that there is a 30% chance the temperature will fall below freezing tomorrow. On any given day, the bus
sladkih [1.3K]
<h3>Answer:  18%</h3>

===========================================================

Explanation:

Convert each percentage to decimal form

  • 30% converts to 0.30
  • 60% converts to 0.60

Then multiply the decimal values

0.30*0.60 = 0.18

That converts to 18%

So there's an 18% chance that both events happen at the same time. In other words, there's an 18% chance of the temperature falling below zero and the bus being late.
