Hello there!

To make this problem easier, let's get rid of the parenthesis by distributing the 3 and the 2!

3 (5j+2) becomes (3•5j) + (3•2) = 15j+ 6

2 (3j-6) becomes (2•3j) + (2• -6) = 6j-12

** be careful with the negative signs!!

So now you have:

15j+6 = 6j-12

Now, you simply move the numbers with the letters to one side of the equation. It doesn't matter which side.

15j - 6j = -12 - 6

Notice how when I bring over 6j the sign flips. It becomes -6j because you're subtracting it. When you do anything to one side of the equation, you must do the same to the other! :)

So now:

9j = -18

Now you divide both sides by 9! Why 9? Because 9 has a j attached to it. You're trying to solve for j (the value of the variable/letter).

So it's:

j = -2

And that's your answer!

I hope this helped!! :D

Tip: If you're still confused on when to subtract or divide, I suggest going to Khan Academy to watch their videos on Algebra 1, or just searching up similar problems on YouTube. :) Do whatever works for you!

3(5j+2)=2(3j-6) do distributed to remove parenthesis  15j+6=6j-3 . Then move all j to left side and the second term to right side 15j-6j=-3-6. Now solve both sides  9j= -9. Now divide both sides by 9 to get j alone to j =  -1
