While most of Europe was plunged into a period of darkness after the fall of the Roman Empire, Spain shone brightly in the areas of Sanitation, women's rights and progress (as women were allowed to hold land under Islamic law and have a share in inheritances), architecture, debate and Oral traditions, trade, Science, Mathematics, and preserving the both ancient and classical records/knowledge. This led to progression in all of Europe, and indirectly aided in dissipating the dark ages and bringing about the High Middle Ages.
