Nathaniel Greene was the major general of the Continental Army on the southern theater during the American Revolutionary War. He was appointed there by General Washington to fight against the superior British force commanded by Lord Cornwallis.
Greene uses the strategy of engaging in guerrilla warfare campaigns against the British. That strategy consisted of forming small groups of combatants and use military tactics such as ambush, hit and run, raid to fight against superior and larger forces. The strategy used by Greene was successful and caused heavy losses on the British forces eroding its control on the Southern United States.
Greene's strategy<span> was to exhaust </span>Cornwallis by getting him to chase him all over the countryside fighting small, inconclusive battles.<span>The Battle of Cowpens, January 17, 1781, was in South Carolina. It was when Nathaniel Greene beat Cornwallis and was a turning point.
