We are given with the expression xy = 4. The first derivative of the x is dx/dt while that of y is dy/dt. in this case using the multiplication rule of differentiation and that of constants, x dy/dt + y dx/dt = 0.  when  x= -3, y should be -4/3. Hence when dy/dt = -2, -3(-2) -4/3 *dx/dt = 0. dx/dt is equal to 9/2.

Dy/dx = dy/dt  *   dt/dx

xy = 4

y + x(dy/dx) = 0      by implicit differentiation.

x(dy/dx) = -y

dy/dx = -y/x

<span>dy/dx = dy/dt  *   dt/dx             dy/dt = -2
</span>
<span>-y/x = -2 *   dt/dx
</span>
y/(2x) = dt/dx

dt/dx =  y/(2x)

dx/dt = 2x/y

When x = -3,   xy = 4,  y = 4/x = 4/-3 = -4/3

dx/dt = 2*-3/(-4/3) = -6 *-3/4 = 18/4 = 9/2 = 4.5

dx/dt = 4.5

Ber [7]

Answer:

Sara earned a commission of <em>$2,300.</em>

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the answer we will first<em> divide 5 by 100</em> and we get <em>0.05</em>.  Now <em>multiply $46,000 by 0.05 </em>and we get <em>$2,300</em>.  Therefore, <em>$2,300 is our answer.</em>

Solve the equation.<br> -9x + 1 = -x + 17
xxMikexx [17]

Step-by-step explanation:

-9x + 1 = -x + 17

collect like terms

-9x + x = 17-1

-8x = 16

divide both sides by -8

-8x/-8 = 16/8

x = 2

suppose the depth of the tide in a certain harbor can be modeled by y = 20 + 5 cos (pi/6 t), where y is the water depth in feet
Rom4ik [11]

Answer:

- high tide occurs at 12 noon and 12 midnight

- Low tide occurs at 6 a.m and 6 p.m

- maximum depth value = 20 ft

- Minimum depth value = 15 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

The depth is modelled as;

y = 20 + 5 cos (πt/6)

We are told that t = 0 represents 12:00 midnight.

This is high tide because at t = 0, the cos function will be at it's maximum value of 1 since cos 0 = 1.

Max depth value is;

y = 20 + 5(0)

y = 20 ft

Minimum depth value will be the low tide and it will be when the cos function is equal to -1.

Thus;

y = 20 + 5(-1)

y = 15 ft

Since t represents number of hours and since at 12 midnight, t = 0, thus; high tide will occur again at;

12 noon

Also, let's check for low tide.

Let's try t = 6 which means 6 a.m

Thus;

y = 20 + 5 cos (π(6)/6)

y = 20 + 5 cos π

Cos π has a value of -1

Thus;

y = 20 + 5(-1)

y = 20 - 5

y = 15 ft

Thus;

Low tide occurs at 6 a.m and 6 p.m
