Not drawn to scale, thanks.

What they're trying to get you to think about with this question is what are the consequences of measurements "correct to the nearest centimeter."

When our numbers are approximations, meaning they're inexact, and we use them in calculations, the things we compute will also be inexact approximations. This problem is trying to get us to understand how inexact an area calculated with inexact numbers can be.

We're interested in the greatest possible area of the shaded region. That will happen when the outer numbers are as big as they can be and the inner white region numbers are as small as they can be because we subtract the white rectangle from the big rectangle to get the shaded area.

If these measurements were exact we'd have a shaded area of

42 \times 21 - 28 \times 15 = 462

We're allowed to adjust the numbers so that the numbers here are still arguably the nearest centimeter.

42.5 \times 21.5 - 27.5 \times 14.5 = 515

Wow, big difference.

Final answer: 515 square centimeters

Write an equation that is parallel to the line 4x - y = 2 and passes through the point (-2, 3)
sergeinik [125]
We can start from the given line's coefficients and translate the line from the origin to the given point.
 4(x -(-2)) -(y -3) = 0
 4x +8 -y +3 = 0

The equation of the desired line is ...
 4x -y = -11

_____
For standard form line ax+by=c, any parallel line will have only a different value of c. For c=0, the line goes through the origin (0, 0). To make it go through point (h, k) we can write it as
 a(x-h) +b(y-k) = 0
which is completely equivalent to
 ax +by = ah +bk

Question 2
Answer

Solve
Lelu [443]

Answer:

 • Option B is correct.

Step-by-step explanation:

To subtract fractions, we must check if the denominators of both fractions are the same.

 • 2/5 - 1/7
 • => 2 x 7/5 x 7 - 1 x 5/7 x 5
 • => 14/35 - 5/35

Now, let's subtract for the result.

 • => 9/35

Hence, Option B is correct.

Hoped this helped.

Solve this please, and quick
rosijanka [135]
Error: They subtracted 9x from both sides when they should have subtracted 12. You can’t subtract unlike terms
Correct: x=-5/16
Subtract 12 from both sides to get -5 on the left and add 7x and 9x to get 16x. Divide both sides by 16 to isolate x.

QveST [7]
Well so you have to go with pemdas. p parenthesis, e exponets,m multipication, d division, a add, s subtract. let start with the parenthesis which is 8 plus negative four to the secondpower minus 6. so negative 4 to the second power is equal to positive sixteen because negative time negative is equal to positive. so 8 plus sixteen is 24-6 is 18. negative 12 divided by 3 is negative 4.so negative 4 time 18 is negative 72 plus 2 is negative 70.the answer is negative 70
