In January 2015, a man named Okeefe was killed by a police officer after a short chase. Okeefe had been fleeing from the police

and several shots were fired. The police officer was wearing a video camera, which recorded the incident. Several cities now require police officers to wear such cameras to increase transparency and accountability of law enforcement. Observers have noticed that both, police officers and citizens, tend to behave better when a camera is recording the incident. As documents of "the truth," police videos can be somewhat ambiguous. For example, the footage described above does not actually show Okeefe fleeing or shooting at Officer Fisher. One day before that incident, however, prosecutors did decide to pursue murder charges against two other Albuquerque police officers whose killing of a homeless man was captured by a helmet camera. Once the police officer arrived at the scene, he had to exercise discretion in what manner?
A.He had to consider whether to shoot the suspect
B.He had to consider whether the shots fired were coming from the suspect
C.He had to consider his safety and the safety for others
D.All of these are correct

Answer:had to exercise discretion in D.All of these are correct

Explanation:

What is meant by exercising discretion?

Exercising discretion means one doesn't make a haste decision but they first consider other factors before they act. Those factors need to be evaluated in terms of which matters the most.

A.He had to consider whether to shoot the suspect

- officers are not supposed to just shoot the suspect in haste without a reason to believe that the suspect poses a threat to them like when they pull a gun and shoot back.

B.He had to consider whether the shots fired were coming from the suspect

- If the suspect isn't the one shooting back it would not be called for to shoot he suspect but the person who is shooting.

C.He had to consider his safety and the safety for others

- firing shots may put people around in danger or in the line of fire where innocent people could die.

sesenic [268]

Answer:

False

Explanation:

The given statement is completely opposite of what actually happens. In an ethical and social system, it is a common principle that each and every member of a group bears responsibility for the well-being of other members. This simply means that the people are responsible for each other and the collective good of the system is above individual good ethically and everyone is supposed to look out for others. Hence the given statement is clearly false.
