"The evolution of sexual reproduction is a major puzzle because asexual reproduction should be able to outcompete it as every young organism created can bear its own young. This implies that an asexual population has an intrinsic capacity to grow more rapidly with each generation. This 50% cost is a fitness disadvantage of sexual reproduction. The two-fold cost of sex includes this cost and the fact that any organism can only pass on 50% of its own genes to its offspring. One definite advantage of sexual reproduction is that it prevents the accumulation of genetic mutations. Sexual selection is a mode of natural selection in which some individuals out-reproduce others of a population because they are better at securing mates for sexual reproduction. It has been described as a powerful evolutionary force that does not exist in asexual populations."

A researcher crosses the F1 generation of two snapdragon plants. According to this information and the diagram below, what is th
Stels [109]

The correct answer is B. 1 red; 2 pink; 1 white

Explanation:

In genetics, the combination of alleles (genotype) determines the phenotype or physical features; for example, in this case, the color of the flowers in the snapdragon plants can be determined by the combination of dominant alleles (R) and recessive (r) alleles. Additionally, in the case presented, a dominant allele combined with a recessive allele (Rr) leads to pink snapdragon plants, while two dominant alleles (RR) lead to red snapdragon plants, and two recessive alleles (rr) lead to white snapdragon plants.

According to this, the generation F2 shown in the chart produced 1 red plant because there is only one plant with RR genotype; 2 pink plants because there are two plants with Rr genotype; and finally one white plant because the last plant has an rr genotype.

An island nature preserve brings in 72 NA warblers and 252 SA warblers. Out of the 72 NA birds, 55 have long plumage. Out of the
nalin [4]

401 of these offspring are expected to have long plumage.

To calculate the number of these offspring that are expected to have long plumage the following cross multiplication calculation must be performed:

 • Total birds = 72 + 252 = 324
 • Long plumage birds = 55 + 75 = 130
 • 324 = 130
 • 1000 = X
 • 1000 x 130/324 = X
 • 130000/324 = X
 • 401.23 = X

Therefore, 401 of these offspring are expected to have long plumage.

The roots of the aquatic plant hydrilla are poorly developed and lack xylem tissue. Which is an appropriate justification for th
posledela
The appropriate justification of this is that B. As hydrilla is aquatic in nature, the roots do not have to search for minerals, and there is no need for xylem to absorb nutrients because the plant is surrounded by water that has dissolved nutrients in it.
