Today’s food consumption (includes high consumption of pork) had led to an increase in the omega-6 (n-6) to omega-3 (n-3) fatty acid ratio in humans. This imbalance in the fatty acids ratio has been associated with diseases such as cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases, diabetes and autoimmune disorders. So, scientist “created” transgenic pigs that produce omega-3 fatty acids, in order to improve heart function and help reduce the risks for heart disease.
