A catapult launches a boulder with an upward velocity of 112 ft/s. The height of the boulder, h, in feet after t seconds is give

n by the function h= -16t^2 + 112t + 30 .
How long does it take the boulder to reach its maximum height? What is the boulder’s maximum height? Round to the nearest hundredth, if necessary.

A. 7 s; 30 ft
B. 3.5 s; 366 ft
C. 3.5 s; 618 ft
D. 3.5 s; 226 ft

To determine the time it takes for the maximum height to be achieved, derive the  equation and equate to zero.
                        h = -16t² + 112t + 30
                       dh / dt = 0 = 2(-16)t + 112
The value of t is 3.5 s. Substitute this value of time to the equation for h,
                         h = -16 x (3.5 s)² + 112 x 3.5 s + 30 = 226 ft
Thus, the answer is letter D.

Nancy is making cookies for a bake sale. She needs a total of 4 pounds of chocolate chips. She has a 28-ounce bag of chocolate c
Westkost [7]
How many ounces are in a pound? 16! SO 16 times 4 = 64.  So Nancy needs 64 ounces in all.  So 28 plus 10 = 38 that's still not enough, so lets add some more 38 plus 10 = 48 still not enough, add some more 48 plus 10 plus 10 = 68.  So lets add up how many bags we need.  So in all with her 28 that she already has, we need 4 bags.

Unless you just want to give money to the ice cream truck, for 0 items, you will pay 0.

Since the price of each item is $0.77, for one item you will pay $0.77. (Is that a surprise?)

Then for two items, you will pay $0.77 for each one, or $0.77 + 0.77 = $1.54. You can also compute this by making use of the fact that multiplication is a shortcut for repeated addition. The price can be found by $0.77×2 = $1.54 = f(2).

Similarly, for 3 items, you can add $0.77 three times: $0.77 + 0.77 + 0.77 = f(3), or you can use multiplication: $0.77×3 = $2.31 = f(3).

a) Our table looks like
  (x, f(x))
  (0, 0)
  (1, 0.77)
  (2, 1.54)
  (3, 2.31)

b) By now, I'm sure you have realized that to find the price of x items, you multiply 0.77 by x.
  f(x) = 0.77x

What is the best approximation of the solutions to the system to the nearest integer values?
Aleksandr-060686 [28]
The first number in the couplet is the distance along the x-axis (i.e. distance from the y-axis).  We can read 0.8 from the graph.
The second number is the distance along the y-axis (i.e.distance from the x-axis).  We can read 6.7 from the graph.

So approximately, we have the point as (0.8, 6.7).
Round the numbers to the nearest integer and you'll get the required answer choice.
