ANSWER QUICKY! Create a mixture of salt and sand. How can you separate the sand from the salt? Pour some salt and sand into a cu

p and stir. Add water to the mixture and stir. The salt dissolves in water; the sand does not. Use a funnel with a paper filter. Pour the mixture through the filter into another cup. The salt goes through; the sand is left behind. Let the water evaporate for a couple hours. The salt is left behind. Create a mixture of nails, toothpicks, and plastic mixers. How can you separate these three objects? Would you use shape to separate this mixture? Place all three components in a bowl. Use a magnet to separate the nails. Plastic and wood do not stick to magnets. Use water to separate the toothpicks, since they float. You can pick them with your hands. The plastic mixers are left behind.
(1)What physical properties did you use to help you separate each mixture?

(2)Could you have used other properties?

(3) Are these mixtures homogeneous or heterogeneous? Why?

(4)What are different types of mixtures, and how do they differ?

Explanation:

(1)What physical properties did you use to help you separate each mixture?

Mixture of salt and sand was separated using the physical properties of solubility

nails, toothpicks, and plastic mixers mixtures was separated based on magnetism and density differences.

Physical properties of a substance suggests everything that is happening to it when change is occurring to its constituents.

Such properties are observed with our senses or instruments.

In this experiment, solubility of the salt in the water solution was used in separating the mixture. Salt is a polar compound and it will readily dissolve in water.

Magnetism was first used to separate the metal from the non-metals then density differences between the mixer and toothpick was used to separate them.

(2)Could you have used other properties

I don't think there is any other physical property that will separate the mixtures perfectly well like this.

(3) Are these mixtures homogeneous or heterogeneous? Why?

The mixtures are homogeneous.

Homogeneous mixtures are mixtures that have their constituents existing in just a single phase.

Sand and salt are both solids and this is a single phase.

Toothpick, nails and plastic mixer are all solids existing in a single phase.

4)What are different types of mixtures, and how do they differ?

Mixtures can be divided into two based on the number of their phases:

Homogeneous mixtures are mixtures that exists in one single phase.:

Examples are:

  • Gas - Gas mixtures
  • Liquid - Liquid mixtures
  • Solid - Solid mixtures

Heterogeneous mixtures are mixtures that exists in more than one phase.

  • Gas - liquid mixtures
  • Liquid - solid mixtures
  • Gas - solid mixtures

What does sound travel slowest through? Rock, Steel, Air, or Water?
tatyana61 [14]
Through Air sounds travels approximately 343 meters/second. Why the difference? Because the closer together the molecules in a substance are, the faster sound will travel through that medium.

What is the molality of a solution that contains 418.8 g HCl in 4.62 kg water?
hram777 [196]

Answer:

a. 2.49

Explanation:

Molar mass of HCl= 36.46 g

So, no. of moles=418.8/36.46=11.48

Molality= no. of moles/mass of solvent= 11.48/4.62= 2.49
