A well mixed tank with a capacity of 1500 gals originally contains 1000 gallons of freshwater. One pipe containing 1/2 lb of sal

t per gallon is entering at a rate of 4 gal/min. The second pipe containing 1/3 lb of salt per gallon is entering at a rate of 6 gal/min. The mixture is allowed to flow out of the tank at a rate of 5 gal/min. Find the amount of salt in the tank at any time prior to the instant when the solution begins to overflow.

Answer:

400 lb of salt

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us assume the water flows into the rank for x minutes.

There is an initial of 1000 gallons of water in the tank and water flows in through one pipe at 4 gal/min and through another pipe at 6 gal/min. In x minute, the amount of water in the tank = 1000 + 4x + 6x = 1000 + 10x

Water flows out at 5 gal/min, therefore in x minute the amount of water in the tank = 1000 + 10x - 5x = 1000 + 5x

The tank begins to overflow when it is full (has reached 1500 gallons). Therefore:

1500 = 1000 + 5x

5x = 1500 - 1000

5x = 500

x = 100 minutes.

1/2 lb salt per gallon flows into the tank at 4 gal/min and 1/3 lb of salt is flowing in at 6 gal/min, in 100 min the amount of salt that entered the tank = 4 gal/min × 100 min × 1/2 lb/gal + 6 gal/min × 100 min × 1/3 lb/gal= 400 lb

Therefore the amount of salt is in the tank when it is about to overflow = 400 lb of salt

2) 3x + 4y = 8
2x+y=42
a) (30, -19)
b) (31, -20)
c) (32,-22)
What is the answer
kirza4 [7]

Answer:

C

Step-by-step explanation:

We can solve simultaneous equations using substitution method, elimination method or graphical method. But for this purpose, we will be using the elimination method.

3x+4y=8 Equation 1

2x+y=42 Equation 2

Multiply Equation 1 by 2 and equation 2 by 3, so as to get the same coefficient for x

2(3x+4y=8)= 6x+8y=16 Equation 3

3(2x+y=42)= 6x+3y=126 Equation 4

Subtract equation 4 from 3, to eliminate x

6x-6x=0

8y-3y= 5y

16-126= -110

We now have 5y=-110

Divide both sides by 5,

y= -110/5

= -22

Substituting for y in equation 2

2x+(-22)= 42

2x= 42+22

2x=64

x= 64/2

= 32

(x, y)

(32, -22)

Find the sum of natural number from 1 to 30
Ierofanga [76]

Answer:

1. sum of term = 465

2. nth term of the AP = 30n - 10

Step-by-step explanation:

1. The sum of all natural number from 1 to 30 can be computed as follows. The first term a = 1 and the common difference d = 1 . Therefore

sum of term = n/2(a + l)

where

a = 1

l = last term = 30

n = number of term

sum of term = 30/2(1 + 30)

sum of term = 15(31)

sum of term = 465

2.The nth term of the sequence can be gotten below. The sequence is 20, 50, 80 ......

The first term which is a is equals to 20. The common difference is 50 - 20 or 80 - 50 = 30. Therefore;

a = 20

d = 30

nth term of an AP = a + (n - 1)d

nth term of an AP = 20 + (n - 1)30

nth term of an AP = 20 + 30n - 30

nth term of the AP = 30n - 10

The nth term formula can be used to find the next term progressively. where n = number of term

The sequence will be 20, 50, 80, 110, 140, 170, 200..............

The sum of two numbers is -17. Their difference is 41. Find the numbers.
Mnenie [13.5K]

Answer:

the two numbers are 12 and -29

Step-by-step explanation:

let the two numbers be x and y

let the sum of the two numbers b

x+y = -17 ..................................................... equation 1

let the difference between the two numbers be

x-y = 41 ........................................................................ equation 2

from equation 1

x+y = -17 ..................................................... equation 1

x = -17 - y ............................................................... equation 3

substitute for x in equation 2

x-y = 41 ........................................................................ equation 2

-17-y -y = 41

-17 -2y = 41

-2y = 41 + 17

-2y = 58

divide both sides by -2

-2y/-2 = 58/-2

y = -29

put the value of y = -29 in equation 3

x = -17 - y ............................................................... equation 3

x = -17-(-29)

x =-17 + 29

x = 12

therefore the two numbers are 12 and -29
