A metallic sheet has a large number of slits, 5.0 mm wide and 20 cm apart, and is used as a diffraction grating for microwaves.

A wide parallel beam of microwaves is incident normally on the sheet. What is the smallest microwave frequency for which only the central maximum occurs? (c = 3.00 × 108 m/s)

Answer:

The smallest microwave frequency is 1.5 GHz.

Explanation:

Given that,

Distance d= 20 cm

We need to calculate the wavelength

Using formula for maximum diffraction

d\sin\theta=\lambda

For maximum, \sin\thea=1

d=\lambda

\lambda=20 cm=0.2 m

We need to calculate the frequency

f =\dfrac{c}{\lambda}

f=\dfrac{3\times10^{8}}{0.2}

f=1.5\times10^{9}\ Hz

f=1.5 GHz

Hence, The smallest microwave frequency is 1.5 GHz.

How does tightening a string on a guitar affect its natural frequency?
iragen [17]
By tightening a string you are actually putting more stress on the string you are giving it a new frequency that isn't natural.

Hope this helps

A satellite with a mass of 2,000 ㎏ is inserted into an orbit that is twice the Earth' s radius. W hat is the force of gravity on
dolphi86 [110]

Answer:

option (b) 4900 N

Explanation:

m = 2000 kg, R = 6380 km = 6380 x 10^3 m, Me = 5.98 x 10^24 kg, h = R

F = G Me x m / (R + h)^2

F = G Me x m / 2R^2

F = 6.67 x 10^-11 x 5.98 x 10^24 x 2000 / (2 x 6380 x 10^3)^2

F = 4900 N
