Mayan religion was a polytheistic religion. They believed in a supernatural realm which was inhabited by powerful deities. A series of rituals were put into place in order to "satisfy" these deities.
Religious leaders were at the top of social hierarchy. They put rituals into practice in order to worship Mayan ancestors, as they believed they were the wons who interceded for the living ones.
