45 otter box defender series covers are in the shipment

<h3><u><em>Solution:</em></u></h3>

Let the number of Otter Box Defender cover be x

Let the number of Otter Box Case cover be y

Cost of 1 Otter Box Defender cover = $ 39.95

Cost of 1 Otter Box Case cover = $ 18.95

<em><u>Given that shipment of 205 Otter Box covers for i-phones has just arrived</u></em>

Therefore,

number of Otter Box Defender cover + number of Otter Box Case cover = 205

x + y = 205 ---------- eqn 1

<em><u>Given that total invoice is $ 4829.75</u></em>

Therefore,

number of Otter Box Defender cover x Cost of 1 Otter Box Defender cover + number of Otter Box Case cover x Cost of 1 Otter Box Case cover = 4829.75

x \times 39.95 + y \times 18.95 = 4829.75

39.95x + 18.95y = 4829.75 ------ eqn 2

<em><u>Let us solve eqn 1 and eqn 2</u></em>

From eqn 1,

x = 205 - y ----- eqn 3

<em><u>Substitute eqn 3 in eqn 2</u></em>

39.95(205 - y) + 18.95y = 4829.75

8189.75 - 39.95y + 18.95y = 4829.75

-21y = 4829.75 - 8189.75

-21y = -3360

<h3>y = 160</h3>

From eqn 3,

x = 205 - y

x = 205 - 160

<h3>x = 45</h3>

Thus 45 otter box defender series covers are in the shipment

The graph of the equation below is a circle. What is the length of the radius of the circle? (x - 4)^2 + (y + 12)^2 = 17^2
djverab [1.8K]
The correct answer is:  [D]:  "17" .
______________________________________________________
The radius is:  " 17" .
______________________________________________________
Note:
______________________________________________________
The formula/equation for the graph of a circle is:
______________________________________________________
   (x − h)²  +<span> </span> (y − k)² =  r²  ;

in which:

          " (h, k) " ; are the coordinate of the point of the center of the circle;

           "r" is the length of the "radius" ; for which we want to determine;
_______________________________________________________
We are given the following equation of the graph of a particular circle:
_______________________________________________________

          →  (x − 4)²  +  (y + 12)² =  17² ;

which is in the correct form:

→  " (x − h)²  +  (y − k)² =  r²  " ;

 in which:  " h = 4 " ;

                  " k = -12" ;

                   "r = 17 " ;  which is the "radius" ; which is our answer.

          →  { Note that: "k = NEGATIVE  12" } ;

→  Since the equation <u>for this particular circle</u> contains the expression:             _________________________________________________________
                      →     "...(y + k)² ..." ;

[as opposed to the standard form:  "...(y − k)² ..." ] ;
_________________________________________________________
→  And since the coordinates of the center of a circle are represented by:
            " (h, k) " ;

→  which are:  " (4, -12) " ;  (<u>for this particular circle</u>) ;
_________________________________________________________
→  And since:  " k = -12 " ;  (<u>for this particular circle</u>) ;
_________________________________________________________
then:

 " [y − k ] ²  =  [ y − (k) ] ²  =  " [ y − (-12) ] ² " ;

                                         =  " ( y + 12)² "  ;

{NOTE:  Since:  "subtracting a negative" is the same as "adding a positive" ;

           →   So;  " [ y − (-12 ] " = " [ y + (⁺ 12) ] " = " (y + 12) "
___________________________________________________
Note:  The above explanation is relevant to confirm that the equation is, in fact, in "proper form"; to ensure that the:  radius, "r" ;  is:  "17" .
___________________________________________________
           →    Since:  "r  =  17 " ;

           →  The radius is:  " 17 " ;

          which is:  Answer choice:  [D]:  "17" .

A movie theater complex gave a poll as viewers exited from two theaters showing the same film. They had a 20% response rate from
sp2606 [1]

Answer:

Let´s define the variables:

x = number of people in theater A

y = number of people in theater B

We know that a 20% (or 0.2 in decimal form) of the people in theater A answered the survey, then the number of people from theater A that answered the survey is: Na = 0.2*x

We know that a 30% (or 0.3 in decimal form) of the people in theater B answered the survey, then the number of people from theater B that answered the survey is: Nb = 0.3*y

There where 800 people in total (counting from the two theatres)

Then x + y = 800.

A) In this case we have:

Na = Nb

this means that:

0.2*x = 0.3*y

and we also have the equation:

x  + y = 800

To solve this, we need to isolate one variable in one of the equations, i will isolate x in the second equation:

x = 800 - y

And now we can replace this in the other equation to get:

0.2*(800 - y) = 0.3*y

We need to solve this for y:

160 - 0.2*y = 0.3*y

160 = 0.3*y + 0.2*y = 0.5*y

160/0.5 = y = 320

Then there where 320 people in theater B, and:

x + y = 800

x + 320 = 800

x = 800 - 320 = 480

There where 480 people in theather A.

B) Now we have:

x = 440

y = 360

then:

Na = 0.2*440 = 88

In theater A, 88 people answered the survey.

Nb = 0.3*360 = 108

In theater B, 108 people answered the survey.

In total, 88 + 108 = 196 people answered the survey.
