In "Because I Could Not Stop for Death," the House is a metaphor for _____.
Gnesinka [82]

In "Because I Could Not Stop for Death," the House is a metaphor for:

 • A place where the speaker can rest

What is the point of the metaphor?

The metaphor is a direct comparison of two elements. In the poem, Charles Dickenson wanted to express the fact that he was not afraid of death.

Instead of describing the coffin as something fearful, he rather chose to use the house which readers were familiar with as a place of rest.

Do you think journals/diaries are important for history?
tankabanditka [31]
They are probably the most important document in understanding history. Without writing we would have a difficult time understanding archeological data. Also journals give great detail about wars and other major conflicts that would otherwise be unknown to historians.
