Phil makes and sells rugs at his roadside stand. His monthly fixed cost for owning the stand is $800. If he makes and sells 19 r

ugs, his total costs are $952 and he brings in $456 in revenue. Find Phil's monthly cost, revenue, and profit functions (assuming they are linear). Let x be the number of rugs made and sold each month.

Answer:

Total Cost is given as:

Total cost = Fixed cost + Variable cost

Fixed cost = $800

Total cost = $952

Total Variable cost = Total cost - Fixed cost

= 952 - 800

= 152

Therefore, Variable cost per rug is

= 152 ÷ 19

= $8 per rug

Therefore we can write the cost function as;

C(x) = 800 + 8x

Revenue for 19 rugs = $456

Revenue per rug = 456 ÷ 19

= 24

Therefore, total revenue ;

R(x) = 24x

Now, we can evaluate profit using the following formula;

Profit = Revenue - Cost

P(x) = 24x - (800 + 8x) = 24x - 800 - 8x

P(x) = 16x - 800

Based on your hypothesis, how would you design an experiment to test how robins capture worms
Kipish [7]

Answer:

This is a brief write up on study of the sensory mechanisms employed by the

Robin (Turdus migratorius) in locating earthworms.

METHODS AND MATERIALS

The American Robin were captured in the wilds and caged on an outdoor lawn .The experimental birds were observed to have food preferences. Some selected the food they eat. some eat banana or apple, whilke others do accept he food offered to them

FIELD OBSERVATIONS

The robins where observed to find worms in the lawn early in the morning before sunrise and few hours before sunset until the dark hours. Birds run few feet , stopped for few seconds before running again with the head slightly tilted forward in observation.

Experimental Observations.

Some worms where placed on the lawns, it was discovered that the Robbins fed on them. While the ones placed underneath the lawn were not fed upon by the Robbin. Due to the fact that they are out of site. The worms that are slightly out of the ground were feasted by the bird.

The American Robin also was found to pick up a worm either dead or alive for taste instead of smelling before feasting upon it.

CONCLUSION

From the following experiment robins are looking for the visible signs of worms in their

burrows, when the worms are forced to the surface by moisture in the ground, or at

dawn and dusk when the worms are foraging near or on the surface of the ground.

They do not use their olfactory lobes in food search
