<em><u>The set of equations that represent this situation is:</u></em>

y = \frac{1}{6}x + 3

y = \frac{1}{2}x + 3

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Let "x" represent the smaller number

Let "y" represent the larger number

Given that,

<em><u>Six times a larger number is equal to the sum of a smaller number and 18</u></em>

Here "times" represents multiplication

Six times a larger number = sum of a smaller number and 18

6 x larger number = smaller number + 18

6y = x + 18

Thus,

y = \frac{1}{6}(x + 18)\\\\y = \frac{1}{6}x + 3

<em><u>Also given that difference of twice the larger number and the  smaller number is 6</u></em>

twice the larger number - smaller number = 6

2y - x = 6

Thus,

2y = x + 6

y = \frac{1}{2}(x + 6)\\\\y = \frac{1}{2}x + 3

Thus the set of equations that represent this situation is:

y = \frac{1}{6}x + 3

y = \frac{1}{2}x + 3

Harry is one third as old as his father. If his father is x 12 years old, how old is Harry? StartFraction x over 3 EndFraction 4
Mama L [17]

The age of the Harry in the terms of variable <em>x, </em>as the age of his father is (x+4) is represent with following equation.

\sqrt{3}x+4

<h3>How to write algebraic expression? </h3>

Algebraic expression are the expression which consist the variables, coefficients of variables and constants.

The algebraic expression are used represent the general problem in the mathematical way to solve them.

Harry is one third as old as his father and his father is x+12 years old.To find the age of Harry, we need to convert the given statement into the algebraic expression.

Suppose the age of the Harry is <em>a</em> years and the age of his father is<em> b</em> years. Now Harry is one third as old as his father, thus

a=\dfrac{1}{3}b

Let the above equation is equation one.

As the father of Harry is x+12 years old. Thus put the value of age of his father in the equation one as,

a=\dfrac{1}{3}(x+12)\\a=\sqrt{3}x+4

The age of the Harry in the terms of variable <em>x, </em>as the age of his father is (x+4) is represent with following equation.

\sqrt{3}x+4\sqrt{3}x+4

The lengths of two sides of a right triangle are 12 inches and 15 inches. What is the difference between the two possible length
ipn [44]
The problem is using a right triangle, it means we can use the Pythagorean theorem in solving the problem. We have two possible measurements for the third side.
First length, when the third side is the hypotenuse:
x ² = 15² + 12²
x = 19.21

Second possible length, when the third leg is either an adjacent or base side:
15² = x² + 12²
x = 9

Therefore, the difference between the two possible answers are shown below:
Difference = 19.21 - 9 = 10.21
