Cultural assimilation is the process followed by an individual, or groups of individuals, who migrate into a new place and start acquiring the traits, customs, language, and traditions of the new culture where they have arrived. In this way, the migrants who arrive at their new place do not retain the traditions, customs and lifestyles of their place of origin, but rather, prefer to adapt to their new home, and more than that, they wish to become, or be seen, as one of the group in their new home. Thus, they change their language, and do everything possible to become assimilated into the new culture. Asian youths watching American sitcoms, and adopting the lifestyles and customs portrayed in these shows, depicts a perfect example of this process of cultural assimilation.
