Answer:

0.05 M

Explanation:

The reactions are the following:

AgCl (s) ⇄ Ag⁺(aq) + Cl⁻(aq)

Ksp = [Ag^{+}][Cl^{-}] = 1.8 \cdot 10^{-10}       (1)

Ag⁺(aq) + 2CN⁻(aq)  ⇄  Ag(CN)₂⁻(aq)

Kf = \frac{[Ag(CN)_{2}^{-}]}{[Ag^{+}][CN^{-}]^{2}} = 1.0 \cdot 10^{21}   (2)

The reaction of the solubility of AgCl in NaCN is:

AgCl (s) + 2CN⁻(aq) ⇄  Ag(CN)₂⁻(aq) + Cl⁻(aq)

                0.1M - 2x           x                    x

Keq = \frac{[Ag(CN)_{2}^{-})][Cl^{-}]}{[CN^{-}]^{2}}     (3)

By introducing equation (2) and (1) into equation (3) we have:

Keq = \frac{[Ag(CN)_{2}^{-})]}{[CN^{-}]^{2}} \frac{Ksp}{[Ag^{+}]} = Kf \cdot Ksp = 1.0 \cdot 10^{21} \cdot 1.8 \cdot 10^{-10} = 1.8 \cdot 10^{11}

This equilibrium constant is equal to:

Keq = \frac{x\cdot x}{(0.1 - 2x)^{2}} = \frac{x^{2}}{(0.1 - 2x)^{2}}     (4)

<em>where x : is the molar solubility of the Ag(CN)₂⁻ and Cl⁻ and hence the molar solubility of AgCl in NaCN</em>

By solving equation (4) for x we have:

S = 0.05 M = [Ag(CN)₂⁻] = [Cl⁻]

Therefore, the molar solubility of AgCl in 0.10 M NaCN is 0.05 M.

I hope it helps you!

An element has two naturally occurring isotopes with atomic masses of 112.90 amu and 114.90 amu. The relative abundances of thes
Musya8 [376]

Answer:

C. 114.8 u

Explanation:

The atomic mass of X is the <em>weighted average</em> of the atomic masses of its isotopes.

We multiply the atomic mass of each isotope by a number representing its relative importance (i.e., its percent of the total).

Set up a table for easy calculation

0.0429 × 112.90 u =     4.843 u

0.9571  × 114.90 u = <u>109.97    u </u>

                 TOTAL = 114.8       u

A 25.0-mL sample containing Cu2+ gave an instrument signal of 25.2 units (corrected for a blank). When exactly 0.500 mL of 0.027
irga5000 [103]

Answer:

The molar concentration of Cu²⁺ in the initial solution is 6.964x10⁻⁴ M.

Explanation:

The first step to solving this problem is calculating the number of moles of Cu(NO₃)₂ added to the solution:

C = \frac{n}{V} \\0.0275 = \frac{n}{0.0005} \\

n = 1.375x10⁻⁵ mol

The second step is relating the number of moles to the signal. We know the the n calculated before is equivalent to a signal increase of 19.9 units (45.1-25.2):

1.375x10⁻⁵ mol _________ 19.9 units

        x              _________  25.2 units

x = 1.741x10⁻⁵mol

Finally, we can calculate the Cu²⁺ concentration :

C = 1.741x10⁻⁵mol / 0.025 L

C = 6.964x10⁻⁴ M
