A man has two more nickels than dimes. He has $1.15 in all. How many coins of each kind does he have?
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answer:

Man has 9 Nickels and 7 dimes.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let Number of dimes be x

and Number of Nickels be y

As Per given data he has two more nickels than dimes.

y= 2+x\\

As we know that

1\$ = 100 cent

1 nickel is worth = 5 cents = \frac{5}{100}= 0.05\$

1 dime is worth = 10 cents = \frac{10}{100} 0 .1\ $

According to given data he has \$\ 1.15 total nickel and dimes

So the equation becomes,

0.05y+0.1x=1.15

but y= 2+x

0.05(2+x)+0.1x=1.15\\0.1+0.05x+0.1x=1.15\\0.1+0.15x= 1.15\\0.15x= 1.15-0.1\\0.15x=1.05\\x=\frac{1.05}{0.15}= 7

Substituting value of x in equation y = 2+x we get

y= 2+7 =9

Man has 9 Nickels and 7 dimes.

The minute hand of a clock is 6 inches long. how far does the tip of the minute hand move in 15 minutes? how far does it move in
svetoff [14.1K]
This problem involves finding arc lengths.  The formula for arc length

is    s = r*theta, where r is the radius and theta the central angle.

In 15 minutes, the minute hand sweeps out 1/4 of a circle, or pi/2 radians.  This is the central angle.  The arc length (how far the minute hand moves in 15 min) is then

s = (6 inches)(pi/2 rad) = 3pi inches, or about 9.42 inches.

25 minutes is equivalent to a central angle of (25/60)pi rad, or 1.31 radians.  What is the associated arc length?  Calculate this in the same way as I did for a central angle of pi/2.

A cone with a height of 50 meters has a volume of 5400π meters cubed. What is the radius of the cone?
disa [49]

Answer:

r = 18m

Step-by-step explanation:

h = 50 m

Volume of cone = 5400π m³

\frac{1}{3}\pi r^{2}h=5400\pi \\\\\\\frac{1}{3}\pi r^{2}*50=5400\pi \\\\\\r^{2}=\frac{5400* \pi *3 }{\pi * 50}\\\\\\r^{2}=108*3\\\\r^{2} = 324\\\\\\r=\sqrt{324}\\\\\\

r = 18 m
