1. The population is under selection pressure from predators
2. Hey now, no population is ever at H-W equilibrium:
mutations happen
immigration and emigration can occur
the population is not huge, which means that genetic drift can happen
mating is not completely random -- a rat is more likely to mate with someone local than with someone living in Paris, France.

b) The small rats will be selected for (assuming there are predators in this ecosystem that are less likely to look in bushes, and further assuming that the small rats do not have reduced fertility by dint of being small)
This is "directional selection"

c) I would expect the "smallness" allele frequency to increase in this population over time, and the "normal size" allele frequency to decrease.

Which air mass often originates as a different air mass in siberia and is subsequently altered?
podryga [215]
It is a cold Artic air mass over Siberia. Air masses are altered because it doesn't stay in one place and changes as it moves due to the temperature of environment that can be caused by moisture. The cold Artic Mass from Siberia will go to the North Pole, Canada then moves further to the South area.

In order to carry out the testcross, you should cross your original pea plant with another pea plant whose phenotype is ________
Makovka662 [10]
My pea plant has an unknown genotype for flowers, whether it has two dominant traits for white flowers (WW) or one dominant and one recessive (Ww) leading to white flowers; therefore I am doing a testcross in order to determine the genotype of my pea plant. The best plant to do this with is one that has a phenotype of purple flowers (ww) - that is, it is homozygous for the recessive trait. If I use a homozygous recessive plant, I know exactly what its genotype is. I don't have to worry about whether it's got one or two dominant alleles; I know that at least half of my alleles are going to be the recessive w. This makes identifying the offspring's genotype very simple. If I find that the offspring have at least some purple flowers among them, I know that my original plant had to be Ww; that is it had to have one dominant and one recessive allele for the flower color gene. If, however, all of the offspring are white flowers, I know that my original pea plant had both dominant alleles (WW).

It is believed that weed killers like 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T may
goldfiish [28.3K]

Herbicides are a broad category of pesticides that are used to get rid of undesirable plants like weeds and grasses that hinder the development and productivity of desired agricultural crops. Both 2,4-D and 2,4,5T are also known as 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and

 • Herbicides like 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T are also referred to as auxin-type herbicides or plant growth regulators. Auxins are hormones that affect cell division and elongation in order to control cell growth.
 • Auxins are required by plant cells in the proper concentration for growth and development. If auxin levels are too low, plant growth is not promoted at all, and if levels are too high, plant growth is excessively stimulated.
 • Most grasses are not killed by 2,4-D and 2,4,5 T, but broadleaf weeds are. It moves to the plant's meristems after being absorbed through the leaves.
 • These herbicides affect the tissues' cells, causing them to continually divide and proliferate. The plant finally dies as a result of this unchecked, unsustainable growth, which also causes stem curling and withering of the leaves.

Thus, by promoting cell division, these compounds act as herbicides.
