The state of Maine encourages recycling by giving refunds for certain recycled items. When you recycle a glass bottle, you get b

ack $0.05, when you recycle an aluminum can, you get back $0.10, and when you recycle a plastic bottle, you get back $0.15. Part A: Drinks in a glass bottle cost $2.00, drinks in an aluminum can cost $0.50, and drinks in a plastic bottle cost $1.50. You plan to purchase two of each. Use the distributive property to write and expression that represents the amount of money you will spend. 15(20+l) 525 feet AlgebraNation.com Part B: You plan to recycle all of the items you purchased. Use the distributive property to write an expression to represent the amount of refund you will receive. Part C: After receiving the refund, how much was your net cost for the items. Hint: Net cost is equal to the total cost minus the amount of your refund.

Given that cost of 1 drinks in a glass bottle = $2.00

Given that cost of 1 drinks in an aluminum can = $0.50

Given that cost of 1 drinks in a plastic bottle = $1.50

Then sum of costs of 1 drink from each will be = 2.00+0.50+1.50

Given that you buy two of each then total cost will be given by 2(2.00+0.50+1.50)

Hence expression that represents the amount of money you will spend is 2(2.00+0.50+1.50).

Using distributive property, we can rewrite it as:

2(2.00+0.50+1.50)=2*2.00+2*0.50+2*1.50

This is final answer of part A.

----------

Given that refund on 1 drinks in a glass bottle = $0.05

Given that refund on 1 drinks in an aluminum can = $0.10

Given that refund on 1 drinks in a plastic bottle = $0.15

Then sum of refunds on 1 drink from each will be = 0.05+0.10+0.15

Given that you plan to recycle all of the items you purchased then total refund will be given by 2(0.05+0.10+0.15)

Hence expression to represent the amount of refund you will receive is 2(0.05+0.10+0.15).

Using distributive property, we can rewrite it as:

2(0.05+0.10+0.15)=2*0.05+2*0.10+2*0.15

This is final answer of part B.

----------

Net cost is given by difference of total cost and total refund

Net cost = 2(2.00+0.50+1.50) - 2(0.05+0.10+0.15)

= 2*2.00+2*0.50+2*1.50 - (2*0.05+2*0.10+2*0.15)

= 4+1+3 - (0.10+0.20+0.30)

= 8 - 0.60

= 7.40

Hence net cost is $7.40

Answer:

Leg\ 1 = 8

Leg\ 2 = 15

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: See Attachment

Required

Determine the length of the legs

To do this, we apply Pythagoras theorem.

Hyp^2 = Adj^2 + Opp^2

In this case:

17^2 = x^2 + (2x- 1)^2

Open Bracket

17^2 = x^2 + 4x^2- 2x-2x + 1

17^2 = 5x^2 - 4x + 1

289= 5x^2 - 4x + 1

Collect Like Terms

5x^2 - 4x + 1 - 289 = 0

5x^2 - 4x - 288 = 0

Solving using quadratic formula:

x = \frac{-b\±\sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}

So:

x = 8 or x = -7.2

Since, x can't be negative, then:

x = 8

One of the leg is:

Leg\ 1 = x

Leg\ 1 = 8

Leg\ 2 = 2x - 1

Leg\ 2 = 2*8 - 1

Leg\ 2 = 16 - 1

Leg\ 2 = 15

A math class is having a discussion on how to determine if the expressions 4x-x+5 and 8-3x-3 are equivalent using
Mkey [24]

Answer:

 Both expressions should be evaluated with two different values. If for each substituted value, the final values of the expressions are the same, then the two expressions must be equivalent.

Step-by-step explanation:

Both expressions are linear expressions. It takes 2 points to define a line. If the lines defined by each expression go through the same two points, then the expressions are equivalent.

If the expressions have the same value for two different variable values, they are equivalent. (choice D)

_____

Additional comment

One more point is needed than the degree of the polynomial expression. That is, quadratic (degree 2) expressions will be equivalent if they go through the same 2+1 = 3 points.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation: for #2, look at 6 3/4 and make it into a decimal. Do the same to 7 1/2. Compare them both to see which one is shorter by subtracting 6 3/4 from 7 1/2 and when you get your answer for that, make that into a fraction. Predict that 6 3/4 is shorter because of how much less it is compared to 7 1/2. (I hope I helped you in some way. Good luck!)
